Seeking Out High Quality Links

I have recently written about the importance of links.  When I last discussed this topic, I highlighted the importance and usefulness of getting high quality links rather than a plethora of links that are considered less authoritative.  This time, I will examine some ways to find high quality links and how best to make use of them.
 
When looking for high quality links, one of the most important things to do is to research the links.  This can take a while and can be tedious, but it is well worth your while and can definitely help you optimize your site.  Here are some things to look for when you are searching for high quality links:

  • One of the first things for which you should search is authoritative related links that also link to other related trusted resources.  By linking to a site that already has established authority, you not only increase your own authority, but you can also increase your page rank.  Having links from resources that are considered authoritative by the search engines casts a favorable light on your site.
  • Related to this, having links to a resource with a name that you recognize, even if it is not directly related to your services or products, increases your authority by virtue of theirs.  A recognized brand will most certainly assist you with your own authority.
  • In addition to looking for sites with a number of quality links, searching for sites that are considered of high authority in categories similar to your own by the search engines is also useful.  Finding these links is easy because you can generally just search for a term in this category and find which sites are considered most authoritative in respect to it.
  • Another useful tool when searching for links is by searching for sites with a blog that are related to your search terms.  This is particularly useful when your subject matter is technology or web based.  Because blogs continually change the subject matter of a site, the sites with them are indexed more regularly, assisting in their page rank.

    One thing that is important to remember when building links is to make sure that you are careful with paid links and reciprocal links.  While these assist you in finding more links, they are not always acceptable to search engines and can have negative effects on your rank and campaigns.  Natural, one-way link building is the safest and least controversial method for building links.

    Beginning with these tips, researching links should be a little easier and more productive.  While recognizing the benefits of having multiple links to your site, it is important to remember that more often than not, quality is better than quantity.  Ensuring that the links that you create are of a high quality is a benefit not only for your growth but also for your marketing.
