Google Analytics Revealed

June 9, 2008

If you could have something that automatically analyzed your site and traffic, wouldn’t you use it? Well it does exist, and yes, you can have it. Coupled with Google’s adWords, Google analytics can help you optimize your site and your pay per click advertisements.

Google analytics is designed to provide you with information regarding what draws your visitors to your site, what they do on you site, their geographic position and how long they stay on your site. With this information, you can determine if and how to reorganize your marketing strategy, whether your site is productive, and if you need to work on restructuring and reorganizing your site.

BY defining goals or conversions, you can view what practices lead to sales, lead generation, visits to specific pages, or downloads of a specific file. Knowing what is profitable and useful to you, helps define what practices to follow and what parts of your site need some work.

The reports that Google Analytics provides are also customizable to some degree and you can customize your dashboard so that the analyses that are most useful to you are ready at your fingertips.

Google Analytics also provides you with Google Site Search, a useful tool in determining how your visitors search your site. Having this information can help you optimize your site for your visitors. Paired with a number of other offerings by Google, these tools can certainly help you develop a search and optimization strategy.

In addition to information about your site, Google Analytics can also provide you with information on your comparison with similar businesses in your industry. Being able to see your performance measured against your competition can certainly assist you in competing with them and let you know where your weaknesses are.

The funnel visualization helps you track where your would-be customers go and how you lost them. Identifying your weak aspects can help you strengthen your campaigns and expand your revenue by fixing them.

Finally, the GeoTargeting portion of Google Analytics can help you determine the regional demographics of your visitors. By determining the source of many of your customers and the rate of return from their traffic, you can hone your marketing strategies to an even greater amount, ensuring that your target audience is reached even more effectively.

Of course, Google Analytics is not your only option in this arena. There are numerous tools that provide this data, and sometimes, they provide even more, the ease of use with Google Analytics, and its low price tag-free, make it a strong option and at least worth a try. Even if you don’t end up using it, it at least provides a good starting position for your own analysis.
